On 13 December 2024, the new General Product Safety Regulation (GPSR) of the European Parliament and of the Council (EU) 2023/988 will come into force, replacing the existing product safety regulation (hereinafter referred to as “the Regulation“).
The Regulation applies to products which are intended for, or may be expected to be used by, consumers. It introduces certain obligations in particular for manufacturers and importers who place such products on the European Union market, in all sales channels including online marketplaces and e-shops. These include, in particular, information obligations, product safety obligations and the introduction of an EU-wide monitoring system for dangerous products.
The Parliament of the Czech Republic, in connection with the forthcoming entry into force of the Regulation, has approved the bill on general product safety and amendments to other regulations as an adaptation legislation, which has already been signed by the President of the Republic and will enter into force on 13 December 2024. The bill determines the powers of individual supervisory authorities such as the Czech Trade Inspection, the State Agricultural and Food Inspection and others. The bill also extends the powers of the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
