Amendment to the Labour Code

On 25 July 2024, the Senate approved the already announced “val-mech” amendment to the Labour Code (i.e. it is not yet a so-called flexible amendment, it is the next in line). If the amendment is still signed by the President in July and published in the Collection of Laws, it will come into force on Thursday 1 August 2024.

So what could change already this week?

  • Introduction of the so-called minimum wage indexation mechanism and abolition of the guaranteed wage institute
  • The possibility of negotiating remuneration from the DPP/DPČ taking into account possible night work, work in difficult working environments or work on Saturdays and Sundays
  • Abolition of the employer’s obligation to establish a written holiday schedule
  • Adjustment of the area of liability for wages of subcontractor’s employees
  • Specific modifications aimed at improving working conditions in the health sector

-> Effectiveness of the provision regulating the self-scheduling of working time will then only come into effect from 1 January 2025.

Post update as of 08/01/2024

The “Val-mech” amendment to the Labour Code took effect literally overnight! Yesterday it was signed by the President and on the same day it was even published in the Collection of Laws under No. 230/2024 Coll. With the exception of the self-scheduling of working hours, the amendment is therefore effective as of today.
